Privacy Policy — PassCut
Last updated: 4 August 2026 · Effective: 4 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how PassCut ("the App") handles your information. PassCut is developed and published by Rosnil Technology Private Limited ("Rosnil", "we", "us", "our"), the data controller and, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the Data Fiduciary. The App is distributed on the App Store and Google Play under our brand name ApeLabs. Contact: rosnil@apeitnow.com.
1. Information we process — and where
- Photos & camera images. Photos you pick from your library or capture with the camera are used only to create your ID photo, profile picture, featured/social image, or background cut-out. Cropping, resizing, background removal, and compositing happen locally on your device. The images are not uploaded to us.
- Your finished photos and saved projects. Stored in the App's private storage on your device. They are placed in your photo library only when you tap Save, and shared only when you choose to share.
- Optional name for filenames. If you type a name to label an export (e.g. firstname-lastname), it is used only to name the file on your device. It is not sent to us.
2. Information we do not collect
No account, no sign-up, no name, email, or phone number is required. We do not collect location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics that identify you. The App contains no advertising and no third-party tracking SDKs.
3. On-device photo intelligence
Background removal and face detection use your device's built-in frameworks — Apple Vision on iOS and Google ML Kit on Android. These run on your device; the image is processed locally and is not sent to Apple, Google, or us for this purpose.
4. Permissions we request, and why
| Permission | Why | What happens to the data |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To take a photo to turn into an ID or profile photo | The image stays on your device |
| Photo Library (read) | To choose a photo to edit | The selected image stays on your device |
| Photo Library (add) | To save your finished photo when you tap Save | Saved only to your own library |
You can decline or revoke any permission in your device Settings at any time; the App keeps working with reduced functionality.
5. App updates
The App uses Expo Application Services (EAS Update) to deliver improvements. When it checks for an update, Expo's servers receive standard technical request data — such as your IP address, device platform, and the App's runtime version — used solely to serve the correct update. We receive no personal data from this. See expo.dev/privacy.
6. Optional cloud background removal
PassCut can be configured with an optional server-side background-removal fallback for devices that cannot do it on-device. This is turned off in the versions we publish. If a build ever enables it, that build's store listing and this policy will say so; in that case the specific image you are editing is sent over HTTPS to our processing endpoint, used only to produce the cut-out, and not retained after the response. As shipped, no image leaves your device.
7. Children's privacy
PassCut is a general-purpose utility, is not directed to children, and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13 (or the applicable age in your region). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will address it.
8. Data retention & deletion
Because processing is on-device, your content lives only on your device. Delete a project in the App to remove it; uninstalling the App removes all in-app data. There is no server-side copy for us to retain or delete. For any request relating to the optional cloud lane (if ever enabled), email rosnil@apeitnow.com.
9. Your rights
We hold no personal data about you on our servers, so there is nothing for us to export, correct, or erase on our side. Where laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), or India's DPDP Act apply, you retain your rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise any right or ask a question, contact rosnil@apeitnow.com.
10. International users
Processing happens on your device wherever you are, so your images are not transferred across borders by the App. Correspondence you send us by email is handled in India by Rosnil Technology Private Limited.
11. Security
On-device data is protected by your device's own security (passcode, biometrics, OS sandboxing). Any optional network request uses HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but because we collect nothing, the data exposed to us is minimal by design.
12. Not affiliated with any authority
PassCut is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any passport office, government department, embassy, or other issuing authority. Photo size presets follow published guidance that can change; the App does not guarantee acceptance of any photo. Always confirm current requirements with the relevant official authority.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how the App handles information, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date, and reflect material changes before the updated App is released.
